Close to the virgin white sandy beaches of southern Mallorca, luxurious Son Bernadinet is a stylishly designed country retreat. The hotel won a ‘best rural hotel in Spain’ award in 1999 and shows no sign of a drop in standards. Son Bernadinet has the charm of an old country estate with a contemporary touch that adds a light, calm and airy atmosphere. An elegant understated style flows throughout, as plump pale sofas and neutral decor are interspersed with well chosen dark wood antiquities. The uncluttered bedrooms come with all the modern luxuries and each has their own jacuzzi and private terrace.
This is a spacious hidden retreat with tranquil views over gently undulating countryside. The swimming pool is on raised ground to take prime position amongst the splendid surroundings, including the hotel’s orange trees and orchard.
There are plenty of areas in which to relax, be it in the vast garden, on the outside terrace or in one of the main house’s three airy lounges. Meal times are a treat. Mediterranean and Mallorcan dishes, created from home-grown and fresh local produce, are served in the large welcoming dining room, on the tabled terrace or around the barbeque area.
The white sands of Es Trenc, Es Dolc and Es Caragol beaches are all temptingly close by. There is also the local town of Campos, 5kms away, which offers a few decent traditional eateries and one of the islands best agricultural markets. Son Bernadinet also offers a 10% discount at nearby golf courses.

The south has a great selection of beaches. The best beach on the island Es Trenc offers four kilometres of white sand and blue sea backed by dunes and a natural park. Platja d’es Dolc, next to Colonial de Sant Jordi, is the first of a string of attractive beaches such as Es Caragol that can be reached by foot. The most beautiful sandy coves on the island are also in this region – Cala Mondrago, Cala S’Amonia and Cala Llombards.
Set on a headland, the seaside resort of Colonial Sant Jordi is flanked on both sides by attractive sandy beaches. The town’s a bit of a maze but the best place to head for is the harbour front with it's marina and seafront restaurants. Boat trips are also available from here to Cabrera Island.
The small sleepy towns of Santanyi and Campos has become more cosmopolitan due to the insurgence of foreign buyers. Here amongst the narrow streets a mix of traditional cafes and shops can be found alongside interior design boutiques.
