Son Pons, Buger
Situated
in open
countryside near the traditional village of Buger, this
16th century farmhouse
has been converted into a
charming and peaceful
place to stay.
Tucked
down a tree
lined drive, surrounded by acres of land and with glorious views of the
Tramuntana mountains, Son Pons is
a real rural get away
from it all.
Owned for centuries by the
friendly Siquier
Family, the current
generation have thoughtfully restored the
estate, introducing modern comforts
and tasteful touches alongside
spruced up original features.
Huge twisted ancient
beams, animal feeding troughs and family heirlooms
have all been retained and add a genuine
authenticity to this peaceful, welcoming farmhouse.
With
only six bedrooms, guests have plenty of space to enjoy the
estate
and it's surrounds. All
rooms and suites are
individually designed around the original fabric of the house,
combining
beams and stone walls with pale décor
and rustic furniture.
One room (No.2)
enjoys its own private
library balcony overlooking
the hall lounge, whilst another two
rooms (No.5 & No.6)
have private entrances
and terraces. Even the bathrooms are unique, with local rock used in
several basin surrounds.
Son Pons
is ideal for all
times of the
year,
as various lounges, the dining room and two of the bedrooms can enjoy
crackling winter evening fires.
Outside,
there are numerous
patios, shaded terraces
and gardens to take
a
leisurely breakfast,
sunbathe by the pool, or read a book under a tree.
It is easy not to stray too far, so
light lunches can be
provided and dinners, including barbeques, are
usually
available
once or twice a week.
Breakfast includes seasonal produce from
the land, and depending on which time of the year you visit, you could be
tucking into a healthy feast of
eggs, ham, figs, almonds,
oranges and/or
grapes.
The surrounding country
lanes can be enjoyed on horseback
(the
Siquiers have an arrangement with a local farm)
or by borrowing one
of the hotel’s bikes. The pleasant
sandy beach of Muro and
S’Albufera Nature Park
are both close. The latter, rich in
flora and fauna, is a hot
spot for birdwatchers and cyclists.

and 10km from Pollenca.
What's nearby
Walking/Hiking -
The Tramuntana mountain range is a
less than 10km away and is a hikers paradise.
Monastery of Lluc
nestles high in the mountains. The monastery is Mallorca's most important place
of pilgrimage and is popular with day trippers
but an air of spiritual calm still manages to prevail.
There are a few
traditional villages and towns such as
Buger, Sa Pobla,
Caimari, Moscari, Campanet and
Selva
in the vicinity with restaurants, bars and small markets.
Pollenca is an ancient town where a
maze of pleasant narrow streets leads to a vast main square full of
tasteful café and restaurant terraces.
