Arriving

Palma (Mallorca's airport) is one of the most accessible and affordable destinations in Europe. The low cost airlines are continually opening up new routes, and it is now possible to fly to Mallorca from almost any airport in the UK.

We have searched out a few options (listed below) and also recommend a website called
Sky Scanner, which tracks the flights and prices of most low cost airlines and comes up the best deals.

Once you arrive in Palma, there's a good choice of options to help you get to your chosen destination:

Taxi

Right outside the airport arrivals terminal is a large taxi rank with reputable and registered taxis. Fares to Palma are metered (approx. 15 euros), while other destinations are sometimes fixed, so it may be worth asking the driver before you jump in.

Car Hire

If you're planning to explore the island or have chosen one of our hidden retreats it is advisable to hire a car.  Mallorca is full of car hire options - some web based favourites are Drive Spain or Holiday Autos. Some of our places to stay can offer car hire, so if you are interested in this option, please mention it in the comments box when you complete an availability form, and we will send you the hire prices along with the accommodation availability.

Bus

The airport to central Palma has a good bus link (line 1) that runs about 4 times an hour between 6am and 2am. The bus costs under 2 euros and leaves directly outside the terminal, stopping at Placa Espana in Palma's Old Town. This Placa is the hub for all onward journeys around the island by train or bus. Please see the local bus company for timetables.

Trains

The most enjoyable and popular train journey is from Palma to Soller. Trains run on a narrow gauge track through the mountains on a wonderful scenic journey to the 17th century station in Soller. For information please see Tren de Soller. There are two other lines on the island, one to Inca and other to Manacor, and all trains leave from the same station in Palma at Placa Espana.

Travel Insurance

As with all foreign travel, we do recommend that you have travel insurance. It is certainly worth the additional few pounds for peace of mind. This is a very competitive market and there are many companies out there; one of the major and most competitive is Colombus.
