S'Hort Gran Des Palmer closed in 2010
Just a short drive from Mallorca's long white virgin beaches, this quiet county retreat sits on a peaceful plain and oozes a stylish simplicity. The warm and friendly host, Felipe Lopez Nadal, is a well travelled Mallorquin, and his years abroad and calm persona have helped to transform this once derelict farmhouse into a unique and tranquil place to stay. With only seven guest rooms, S'Hort Gran Des Palmer has an intimate and homely feel. Family antiques and old paintings contrast cleverly with contemporary smooth tiles and whitewashed walls. The rooms are divided between the main house (grand suite and two double rooms) and what once was the dairy barn (four suites). Each room is individually decorated yet they all maintain the calm aura that runs throughout the finca.
For those relaxation
enthusiasts, most time will be spent at the back of the house. The inviting
swimming pool and terrace areas are a great spot to soak up the sun, and when it's
time to cool off, there's a wonderful dayroom with comfortable sofas and
daybeds. Interspersed with leafy plants and artefacts from around the
world, this is a perfect shaded place to enjoy the views and while
away the hours.
2 Double Rooms 4 Suite 1 Grand Suite The double rooms and grand suite are on the first floor of the main house. The grand suite comes with a huge walk-in shower and private terrace with views across the island. The suites are in a separate building and enjoy an outdoor patio area shaded with a sweet smelling pagoda.

The south has a great selection of beaches. The best beach on the island Es Trenc offers four kilometres of white sand and blue sea backed by dunes and a natural park. Platja d’es Dolc, next to Colonial de Sant Jordi, is the first of a string of attractive beaches such as Es Caragol that can be reached by foot. The most beautiful sandy coves on the island are also in this region – Cala Mondrago, Cala S’Amonia and Cala Llombards.
Set on a headland, the seaside resort of Colonial Sant Jordi is flanked on both sides by attractive sandy beaches. The town’s a bit of a maze but the best place to head for is the harbour front with it's marina and seafront restaurants. Boat trips are also available from here to Cabrera Island.
The small sleepy towns of Santanyi and Campos has become more cosmopolitan due to the insurgence of foreign buyers. Here amongst the narrow streets a mix of traditional cafes and shops can be found alongside interior design boutiques.
