Maricel Hotel Review

The Maricel is an oasis of style, sophistication and unadulterated luxury. With breathtaking sea views, this five star hotel sits perched over the Mediterranean, just ten minutes drive to the west of Palma. The imposing building has a 16th century elegance, with high ceilings, huge stone archways and beautiful spacious terraces that roll down ornamented staircases to the sea edge.

Inside, there's a calm almost serene atmosphere. The entrance is a large open plan hallway, with luxurious furnishings interspersed with contemporary pieces. Light floods into this room through gigantic open doorways and statuesque stone arches that lead out to the terraces and sea. Upstairs, all the rooms are unique with a very contemporary feel, and each has all the modern comforts and hi-tech requirements of today's savvy traveller, including Wifi and DVD players.

The biggest draw however is outside. With endless sea views, the immaculate tiered terraces are a perfect place for an energising breakfast, or a leisurely long lunch at the hotel's highly regarded gourmet restaurant. In between meals, step down one flight of stairs and try out the stylish designer infinity pool. This is an indulgent place where you'll never want to leave, with comfortable loungers, large parasols and the Mediterranean sea in front of you. If you can manage to drag yourself away, head for Portal Nous, home of the super yachts, or central Palma is a 10 minute taxi ride.

Opposite the Maricel, via an underground walkway, the hotel has extended to create a further 22 rooms. All these rooms come with a private plunge pool and the extension also houses a heated designer pool, which is part indoor and part outdoor.
