Set amidst the agricultural heartland of the island, Son Mercadal is a charming, authentic Mallorcan homestead. This is a peaceful rural retreat, perfect for those wanting to step away from the mad rush of everyday living, and immerse themselves in a slower, simpler pace of life. Owned for generations by a local family, this eight bedroom hotel feels intimate and friendly.

The converted 19th century farmhouse sits in extensive grounds, surrounded by vineyards and orchards. The spacious gardens and a relaxing pool area means there is plenty of space for guests to unwind and bask in the Mallorcan sun.

The house has very authentic interiors with traditional furniture that has been restored from previous generations of the family. All the bedrooms are individual and have antique furniture, original wooden beams and exposed stone walls. For privacy, the rooms have their own entrance and terraces, with external staircases leading to private terraces on the first floor.

The owners pride themselves on their generous hospitality, always on hand to offer local advice or to ensure guests are happy with their meals. The huge breakfasts are a treat, using seasonal fresh produce grown at the finca, homemade pastries and jams together with a selection of cold meats and cheeses. Dinner is also special and popular with guests due to the quality of food and the ambience. The pretty outside terrace is lit up by candle light and three courses of delicious traditional Mallorcan cuisine are served.

For those who wish to explore beyond the peace of Son Mercadal, the traditional market towns of Porreres and Campos are nearby. Whilst the South coast with its stunning white beaches of Es Trenc and Ses Coves are nearer than expected – just a 20 minutes drive.

Son Mercadal was lovely thank you – traditional, homely and run by a kind family. We would return and have recommended your website to all our friends! — KL

Peaceful, charming and good value – just our sort of place! Notes for future guests: the market at Santanyi is interest! We had a lovely walk along the endless beach at Es Trenc. For fresh fish well prepared at a good price, try Moli de Sal (just the other side of Campos) along Porreres has some good restaurants also. — SD

We had a lovely stay thank you. Mercadal had a rustic authentic feel – everything was clean and the gardens and pool were lovely. — B & HW

Charming place with lovely gardens and pool. We like the location as it gave us chance to explore different side of the south. We particular liked the Santanyi area and the beach S’Amarador (bigger and less than Mondrago) — TP

Worth staying here for the romantic candlelit evening meal alone. Such effort goes into making a perfect atmosphere with excellent food. Not a lot of choice on the menu – a fish or meat main dish, but it is done well. A memorable experience. — HT

Picture postcard pretty. Even though our Spanish was very limited, and not much English was spoken, everyone was helpful. We were pleased we opted for dinner during our stay (about 30 euros) and in a really pretty setting on the terrace. — SD

We found this a good place to stop off for a few days. Centrally located, we felt in the heartland of Mallorca. A peaceful, sleepy traditional finca and we may stay again. — K&MF

Thanks, we were delighted with all the suggested places you sent us. At Son Mercadal we enjoyed the peace and authenticity of staying at a farmstead. We stayed in for dinner and it was quite a feast and an enjoyable experience as we ate by candle light on the pretty patio. — LH

A real Majorcan place to stay with traditional furniture and atmosphere. The local family who run it are very friendly. The nice pool with very comfy loungers gets a lot of sun. The food is delicious and there is plenty of it, we struggled to try all the options at the buffet breakfast as there was so much to choose from. — EK

We really enjoyed isolation of Son Mercadal. Breakfast was very good but I think I would prefer a room that was away from the main eating area. The staff were delightful, and swimming pool very inviting. Our weather was very mixed but in did not detract from a most enjoyable experience. It was a very relaxing time, just what we wanted. — CC
