Palma

There's a large and varied selection of places to eat, and you can never stray too far without having to negotiate the tables and chairs dotted outside the city's eateries. The Llotja district is a good place to start, as too are the side streets off Passeig d'es Born and Avinguda d'Antoni Maura.

 

Tapas & Specialities:

La Boveda (Passeig Sagrera, 3)In lively Llotja district, this is often recommended as the place to go for the best tapas in Palma. Open for lunch and dinner with a pleasant patio.
El Pilon (Cifre, 4) Lively, lots of atmosphere and an extensive menu of local tapas and dishes.
La Taberna Del Caracol (San Alsono, 2) Serves tasty tapas, fresh fish and local meat dishes in historical and atmospheric surrounds. Close to the cathedral and Arabian Baths.
La Cueva (Apuntadors, 9) One of several tapas bars on this street. This one is small & lively with tasty tapas and hocks of meat hanging up to add to the atmosphere.
Ca'n Carlos (C/ de S'Aigua, 5) A favourite haunt to sample Mallorcan cooking at it's best.
Ca'n Joan de S'aigo (C/ Baro Sta. Maria del Sepulcre, 5) Not so much a restaurant but a grand cafe serving delicious hot chocolates. Rich red velvet interiors with chandeliers - an institution!

Refectori (Carrer de la Missio, 7A) Receiving rave reviews for international and adventurous cuisine. Part of hotel Convent de la Missio
Aramis (Montenegro, 1) Modern mediterranean cuisine in smart and very nouveau surrounds. Imaginative menu with some international dishes.
Caballito de Mar (Plaza Llotja) Great seafood restaurant in modern and stylish surrounds. Lively and busy outdoor terrace.
Koldo Royal (Avda. Gabriel Roca, 3) Named after the chef, this is a highly rated restaurant with a classic interior.
Chopin (Plaza Chopin C/. Can Puigdorfila) A favourite haunt to sample Mallorcan cooking at it's best.
Opio (Monte Negro, 12) Mediterranean and Asian dishes in hip, relaxed and lively surrounds. Part of hotel Puro Oasis Urbano

 

Something different:

Baisakhi (Avgda Gabriel Roca, 8) Intimate and popular Indian restaurant serving only set menus of several courses (approx 25 euros).
Giovanni's (C/ Sant Joan 3) Popular and lively Italian in the heart of La Llotja. Good pizza and pastas.
Japanese (C/ Blanquerna, 6) Authentic and well prepared sushi is served in modern and stylish surrounds.

 

Santa Catalina - Palma

 

This district is just a short 5 minutes stroll to the west of the Old Town of Palma. It's developing a thriving local community with it's own restaurants, bars and a lively indoor market. To sample the local haunts try some of the following:

 

Fabrica 23 (C/. Fabrica, 23) Very popular, serving local and international dishes in the heart of Santa Catalina.
Le Taj (C/. Espartero, 20) Tasty and authentic dishes in an intimate and atmospheric environment. Serves only set menus but good selection available.
Sa Botiga de Via Appia (C/. Fabrica, 17) Delicious Italian cuisine with a good wine list and served in comfortable surrounds.
Viet-nam (Plaza Progreso) New restaurant serving Vietnamese cuisine. Good atmosphere with modern and sleek decor.
Top Sushi (Plaza Progreso) Modern and hip sushi bar with a cool bar serving cocktails..

 

Es Molinar - Palma

 

This district of Palma is a great place for a stroll along the seafront and a long lazy lunch. It's becoming a popular haunt for the hip locals and expats, with some fine restaurants and tapas bars springing up along the sea front.

 

Portixol (C/. Serina, 27) Exquisite Mediterranean cuisine in stylish swedish surrounds. Part of hotel Portixol
Minimar (Vicari Joaquim Fuster, 67, Es Portixol) Hip and minimalist, serving tasty pintxos (basque style tapas) and larger fish dishes.
Kaskai (Vicari Joaquim Fuster, Es Portixol) Cool hangout on the seafront with a small menu of local and international dishes.
E'Tixerot (seafront - Es Molinar) Traditional restaurant with a great sea view terrace. Large menu with paella, fish and other local dishes.
