Mallorca (Majorca): Shops & Markets Insider's guide to shops and local markets
Palma is a great shopping city with all the shops within easy walking distance of each other. Stroll down Passeig Born and Jaume III to find all the favourites (Zara, Mango, Camper, El Corte Ingles etc). For the top designers, wander the narrow streets behind Passeig Born and Carrer Unio close to Sant Nicolau. For those serious designer shoppers, we've hand-picked a selection of boutiques that are tucked away and sometimes missed:
The largest shopping centre is Porto Pi, which sits on the West side of the city (follow the road with the sea on your left and as you leave the city, Porto Pi is on the right hand side). Shops include a huge Zara and Zara Home, Pull and Bear, Mango, Massimo Dutti, Levis and Lacoste. Out of town, Festival Park is the best bet. It's a large retail outlet centre with cut price Campers, Levis, Nike, Reebok and footwear stores. Drive along the motorway from Palma to Alcudia, and Festival Park is about 10 minutes from Palma on the left hand side. Festival Park and Porto Pi both have a multi screen cinema which sometimes shows films in English.
Mallorca Markets Nearly all the towns and larger villages have a market day, and the further inland you venture, these become a real focal point in the weekly calendar. Our favourite (and the largest) is at Sineu every Wednesday morning. The majority of stalls offer fresh fruit and veg, local specialities (cheeses, meats, fish) and all varieties of leather products. A close second to Sineu is Inca Market. This is held every Thursday morning and offers much of the same with a lot of leather stalls (as Inca is the leather capital of the island).
