Newly Recommended: Calatrava Hotel

Palma already has a fabulous collection of boutique hotels, so any newcomers really need to offer something rather special. Fortunately we found that the recently opened Hotel Calatrava does just that. Its combination of breath taking sea views, excellent old town location and very stylish aesthetics makes for a winning combination.

Hotel Calatrava is what’s created when someone with a career in sympathetically restoring old buildings turns one into a boutique hotel.  Miguel Conde has turned his hand to boutique luxury hotels in the city after years of fastidiously restoring old palaces and properties. His knowledge shows as the beautiful building has been retained and restored whilst the interior glows with style and contemporary finishes. We found there was a real ‘wow’ factor about this hotel which is also helped considerably by its surrounding views.

We had a sharp breath intake moment when we left the lift at the rooftop terrace to find breakfast, and turned to admire the most beautiful sea view.

Obviously you could spend a long time just lounging there and enjoying the view, but in most cases, you can also do that from your spacious, chic and light filled room. The rooms also have rather luxurious bathrooms for pampering.

One of our favourite and unique touches about this hotel has to be the free hour of private spa use offered each day (if you have a preferred time for this, then it’s a good idea to book in advance).

If you can tear yourself away from the calm and luxury of the place, you will find yourself well located to mooch around Palma’s pretty old town and the glamourous seafront. One of our favourite spots along the seafront is the very stylish Nassau Beach Club which serves up delicious food right on the beach. Another old favourite is Varadero cafe which sits perched out at sea with excellent views back to the cathedral. If you don’t want to head out to eat then Hotel Calatrava has its own bistro cafe which offers tasty dishes in stylish surrounds.
