The hike to Cala Tuent in Mallorca is one of our favourite walks on the island. Stunning remote valleys, ancient olive groves, a coastal footpath with endless sea views and a boat trip back to the Port de Soller are just some of the highlights along the trail.
Cala Tuent hike start point at Mirador de Barques
From our suggested start point at Mirador de Barques, the hike to Cala Tuent is nearly 8 miles in distance with about 20 minutes of steep climbing half way through, so some experience of hiking and preparation is required. The Mirador de Barques is a restaurant and viewing point that sits high up on the Tramuntana mountain coastal road (Ma-10). It’s easily reached by bus from the Port de Soller or Soller Old Town (bus 231 – see times). Once you arrive at the Mirador, make sure to enjoy the glorious views down to the Port de Soller before heading off on the walk.
Walking through Bàlitx d’Avall (Bàlitx Valley)
The first part of the walk meanders through Bàlitx d’Avall. This is beautiful valley with ancient twisted olive trees and the sound of birdsong and gentle chimes of sheep bells. The land is divided up by three fortified farms from the 17th century and the trail snakes gradually downhill to the base of the valley and past Agroturismo Bàlitx d’Avall (currently closed). Throughout the valley, signposts for Cala Tuent help guide the way.
Once you’ve reached Agroturismo Bàlitx d’Avall, you cross a small stone bridge which straddles the Torrent de na Mora and then the footpath heads up Coll de Biniamar. It’s a climb of about 250 metres with welcome shaded woodland all the way to the top.
Sea views to Cala Tuent
At the top of Coll de Biniamar, the trail heads down through some woodland a short while until you see the sea and the bay of sa Costera. The views from this footpath all the way to Cala Tuent (roughly one hour walk) are splendid.
After the exhilarating views the path slowly descends down to Cala Tuent. Look out for the restaurant Es Vergeret, a great place to refuel and rest before the last 10 minutes of the walk to the beach.
Cala Tuent
A swim in aqua blue crystal clear water at Cala Tuent is a great way to finish the day.
The landing pier for the boat is to the right of the beach and tickets should be bought before you walk. Boat tickets are available online here or from Barcos Azules ticket office in the Port de Soller.
