Son Gener is a stylish retreat and spa set in peaceful country surrounds yet only a short drive to the coast.

Originally an 18th century farmhouse, the Mallorcan architect owner has sympathetically blended the ancient stone and wood beamed buildings with serene minimalism. Neutral shades, modern minimalist art and dark antiques are scattered throughout. Space, light and calm exude from every corner of this charming small hotel.

Due to its popularity, Son Gener has recently created extra suites in a new house. The rooms are decorated in the same tranquil, contemporary style as the original house, which sits just 100 metres away. To ensure all guests have plenty of space for poolside relaxation, the new house also has its own inviting pool.

The outdoors has been considered as much as the interior. The main pool is the perfect spot to relax, surrounded by olive trees, organic gardens and distant sea views.

The dining room terrace is a gorgeous place to start the day. Breakfast is a generous buffet of homemade delights – breads, pastries, fresh fruit and yoghurt. Eggs and bacon are also cooked on request. Light lunches and three courses dinners are served using organic home grown produce and locally sourced fish and organic meat.

To help you unwind further, the tasteful spa offers a small indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, massage room and exercise studio.

All the junior suites are pale, spacious and comfortable with double doors leading to private terraces complete with loungers.

For those who can tear themselves away from the peace of Son Gener, there are beautiful sandy beach coves nearby as well as the ancient town of Arta and four golf courses.

Our holiday was great thank you. Son Gener was divine! — NM Aug 2018

This is a very well-established luxury little hideaway. One guest we spoke to had returned for the last 10 years! We’re not the returning type but we just might to Son Gener. Everything feels right from the style, architecture, gardens, staff and food. If we resist the urge, please can you find us something very similar to Son Gener next year? — DF June 2018

We are delighted to have discovered the properties you showcase. We were a bit mind-boggled by the choice, so it was a help to chat with kate who came up with availability at a selection of suitable properties. Son Gener was a peaceful, small rural hideaway with the added benefit of two lovely swimming pools. — SP, August 2017

I’m rather fussy about my surrounds, but this well thought out and executed boutique hotel has been beautifully designed by architects who are obviously accomplished at combining old with new. A very restful and calm hotel has been created, with delicious organic meals and a quiet but friendly ambience. — JM, July 2017

Thanks for another excellent recommendation. Son Gener is a little piece of paradise tucked away in a quiet corner of Mallorca. Would happily return. — PC, October 2016

This hotel is even better than photographs can convey. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with friendly staff on hand. We felt as if we had plenty of privacy & personal space as there are two buildings (one old and one new), two pools and beautiful gardens but not many bedrooms. Our room in the new building was large, light plus comfortable, with nice terrace and sun loungers. — FR, September 2016

Just to let you know that we had a wonderful stay at Son Gener ( our third time) we love it and have already reserved for next year. — GR, September 2016

One of the best places we have stayed in. Attentive staff and excellent food. A peaceful luxurious boutique hotel. Thanks for all your help. — A& PM, June 2016

We had a short stay at Son Gener and it was up there with the best of them. An immaculate, stylish small hotel with kind and helpful staff. The food was exceptional which just added to the experience. Would recommend. — K & TS, September 2015

We stayed in the new annex which felt rather special and spa like. Am sure that the rooms in the main house are also very good though, as the decoration throughout was stunning. There is so much space to relax and read a book and sunbathe with two pools to choose from. — JE, September 2015
