This former 17th century manor house in the picturesque old town of Santanyi has been cleverly transformed into a stylish serene 5-star boutique hotel complete with spa. With an enviable location in south east Mallorca, it also has easy access to some of the areas most beautiful sandy beaches and coves.
The historic grand building has been conscientiously restored by the Soldevila-Ferrer family and melded with cutting edge design to create a welcoming 32 room contemporary luxury hotel. Throughout, the ancient buildings light filled interiors are complimented by modern pale neutral tones. These spaces have been interspersed with interesting furniture, either created by renowned designers or commissioned from local artisans. Artworks by acclaimed local artists including Joan Miro, are also dotted throughout the rooms to provide further interest and splashes of colour.
The beautifully designed spa, Sa Calma with hammam, sauna and peaceful 10 metre indoor pool offers all-natural treatments. Many treatment ingredients such as salts from Es Trenc and citrus fruits from Soller, are sourced locally on the island. For those who wish for a bit more activity, the well-equipped gym is open all hours or there are bikes to hire and a dedicated yoga space.
In the grounds, the inviting salt water swimming pool and spacious sundeck are surrounded by well-tended gardens of olive trees and cypresses. There is also a traditional patio, now used as an outdoor terrace for one of the hotel’s two restaurants. The main restaurant Ocre is housed in the house’s old wine cellar and serves up Mediterranean dishes using local seasonal produce. For lighter meals, also using the finest local produce & coastal catches, there is the poolside La Fresca restaurant.
There are also two bars (with one by the pool) to ensure that guests can enjoy a tipple of local wine, gin or cocktail during their stay, plus there’s a library room laden with designer tomes. The experienced team that run this small luxury hotel aim to ensure that guests have a relaxed, recharging experience so are on hand to help, and offer room service 24-7.
The 32 unique bedrooms and suites are all designed individually within the same restful pale neutral palette and biophilic elements. Many have private outdoor spaces – either balconies, patios or terraces whilst the aptly named Pool Suite is privileged to have its own private swimming pool and garden.
Although many guests are happy whiling away the hours at at Can Ferrereta, the hotel does benefit from being located in authentic Santanyi – the ‘gold stone village’ packed full of independent shops, excellent restaurants and cafés and a bustling twice weekly artisan market. This combined with its close vicinity to an attractive coastline, coves and beaches means there is plenty to explore when guests fancy a change from lounging by the pool or in the stylish spa.
