Fresh air, warm sun, beautiful countryside and seascapes are enough to waken anyone from the depths of winter. The island is starting to bloom, and the almond blossom is out and coating the picturesque mountains with pretty white flecks.

Spotlight on… Soller Railway Station: Picasso & Miro Exhibitions

February 26, 2014 11:28 am Published by Leave your thoughts

Train stations are not normally the number one place to find world famous works of art, but the Soller Train Station bucks the trend and houses a small (and free) museum dedicated to the Spanish artists Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso. Rather an unusual spot to admire stunning artwork, we love the casual quirkiness of the location and the accessibility it provides.

This is definitely on our list of favourite things to do in Mallorca. If you like a railway journey or not, the Tren de Soller has got to be one of the prettiest and most memorable small train trips you can take.  Over 100 years old and still running, the gleaming wooden narrow gauge Palma to Soller Train is a popular journey for those looking to soak up the real Mallorca. This is something to take you back in time, and you’d be hard pressed to find any age range that doesn’t enjoy the trip.

Rather overlooked, these caves are a great place to explore whilst in Mallorca. They are less commercial than other caves on the island, and are tucked away in the north east, in the pretty foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains.

Spotlight on… Sa Seu Cathedral, Palma

Palma’s imposing Sa Seu Cathedral is a sight that can’t be missed (& it tends not to be as even those arriving by plane see it on the approach into Mallorca airport!). It is a beautiful sight, and however many times you see this huge Gothic building rising from the sea, it still manages to impress.
